Daily dental care: the essential products from your pharmacy
Regular check-ups at the dentist are the key move for healthy teeth, but then we can take matters into our own hands by taking care of our oral hygiene at home. Our ally in this is our pharmacist who can recommend the necessary products for daily dental care and how to advise us on how to use them properly.
Toothpaste with fluoride
Toothpaste with fluoride is essential to protect the teeth from tooth decay. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, making it more resistant to acids produced by plaque bacteria. Use a pea-sized amount and brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes.
Tip: Don’t rinse your mouth immediately after brushing to allow the fluoride to work longer.
Toothbrush
A good toothbrush is fundamental to cleaning teeth and gums. Consult your pharmacist to choose the one that suits you so that you can effectively clean your teeth but avoid gum irritation and enamel wear. Brush your teeth in a circular motion and change your toothbrush every 3 months.
Tip: Choose a toothbrush with a small head to reach the back teeth easily.
Flossing
Flossing is essential for removing food and plaque from interdental spaces where the toothbrush cannot reach. Use about 45 cm of floss, wrap it around your fingers and pass it between the teeth with gentle strokes.
Tip: Use floss before brushing to allow the toothpaste to reach all areas.
Interdental brushes
Interdental brushes are ideal for cleaning large interdental spaces and removing plaque. Choose the right size for your interdental spaces and use them daily after brushing.
Tip: Use interdental brushes in conjunction with flossing for optimal cleanliness.
Mouthwash
Mouthwash helps to disinfect the mouth and prevent bad breath. Choose a solution that contains fluoride for extra protection against tooth decay. Use it after brushing and flossing, rinsing your mouth for about 30 seconds.
Tip: Don’t eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after using the mouthwash for best results.
